Grace over deserving

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

Happy Sunday! This is the day that the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad in it! May He continue to bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. 

It has been on my heart for a while to write about Gods grace. 2 Corinthians 12:9 is a verse out of many (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:23-24; Titus 2:11, Hebrews 4:16; 2 Timothy 1:19) that demonstrates the grace that God gives us. However, I wanted to dive deeper into 2 Corinthians 12:19 to really grasp the knowledge and understanding of what Jesus is stating here. 

I first researched the meaning of grace. 

Grace is defined as the undeserving favour of God toward humanity. It is a gift given by God to receive forgiveness, salvation and blessings that we are not worthy of. 

I then researched the meaning of sufficient. 

Sufficient means “enough” or “adequate” 

Gods grace is more than enough to meet all our needs regardless of our situation or circumstances. 

I often hear people claim they deserve good things such as, a comfortable lifestyle, material possessions, a pour over of financial blessings. They feel entitled to the best of things in life but the truth is, it's not about being deserving. It's through the grace of Christ our Lord and His mercies that we receive these blessings. 

Of course, it is MORE THAN OK to aspire for the best in life, as we should, but we must also remember that we aren't inherently worthy of it. 

The Bible tells us in Mark 10:18 that no one is good except God. “And Jesus said unto him, “Why callest thou Me good? There is none good but One, that is, God.”

God alone is deserving of all the worship, the praise, the honour, and the glory. Without Him, we would be absolutely nothing! He blesses us out of love, NOT because we think we deserve it.
